An update on our 5 year progress maintaining natural patina progress on the Bexley Public Library bronze door!
We first touched this door in 2019 when we were contacted by the library to ask about how to address the failing lacquer coating and uneven appearance. (I even have a post about it HERE if you'd like to go back and read about it)
Basically my recommendation was to strip off the remaining finish and maintain the door seasonally with only wax. This also meant giving up the bright brass appearance, and allowing a natural patina to form over time to match other bronze elements around the building. With this seasonal maintenance we've also managed to stave off further salt corrosion at the base of the door, and the color is really starting to come on.
