Blind Eye Restoration was hired by the Cleveland Catholic Diocese to restore a number of features in and around the main sanctuary of St. Sebastian Parish in Akron, OH.
The shield sculpture over the main entrance to the church was created specifically for the church at the time of its construction in the early 1960's. It is made entirely of aluminum, with 24kt gold gilding and fluorescent enamel paint highlighting its features. At the beginning of the project, the original gilding on the shield was almost non-existant and the enamel paint details were flaking and discolored. Blind Eye Restoration accessed the nearly 8' tall sculpture with the use of a bucket lift. The sculpture was entirely cleaned down to raw aluminum, primed, and new gold leaf was applied with an oil size alongside the color-matched enamel paint details.
